First Two Races of 2009

by scott on April 28, 2009

On April 19th I raced my first Road race. It was the Ann Arbor Training B race. I went in a little tense but felt good after a few laps. We did fourty  laps plus two. Half way through the race Jim Bruce From Lathrup Industries jumped in and rode on the side of me. He gave me a few pointers and tried to help out. On the last two laps Jim told me to get in the the top ten guys and sprint it out. I did so and ended up 8th for my first road race. It was a little chilly.

My next race was the Michigan USAC Race #1 at Pontiac Lake. It was a time trial and it rained enough for the week to make it nice and muddy. It was my first Cat.1/expert race and i ended up with 5th.  Although i am only 18, I have to race 19-29 catagory so i am really trying to push it hard to keep up i noticed. I had a great race and hope to run tubeless soon with a new wheel set!  Thanks to my dad, i have had some good pictures so far this season!

Training In NC

by scott on April 14, 2009

Terry took me out to North Carolina for my first training trip. I was ready but had no idea what i was in for. We went for a week in the month of April. We rented a house on top of a hill that ended our road rides with 400 feet of elevation to climb.  Terry and I just got our new 2009 Giant road bikes put together before this trip and i also put my new Giant XTC Advance mountain bike together to take along.

We had two strong road rides. The rest of the week, we  rode mountain bikes. The XTC is not my ideal bike for the mountains i figured out. ( Flat Bars, Hard tail, 100 mm fork) I managed without complaints.

MTB Outlook

By the end of the trip, I went through lots of hard climbs, descents, and long rides. Riding with Terry for a week really helped me out and made me a better rider all around. Thanks a lot Terry!

Ready to Race!
